Athlete injuries and their impact on mental health have become increasingly relevant in today's sports industry. This essay evaluates a story of an athlete who struggled with mental health issues after an injury prevented them from playing their sport. However, the athlete was able to overcome their struggles and make a triumphant comeback to the sport.Media studies can play an important role in the way athletes with mental health problems are perceived and represented in the public eye. Athletes are often held up as role models and symbols of strength and resilience, but they are also vulnerable to mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and addiction.Media studies can help to analyze and critique the way that athletes with mental health issues are portrayed in the media, and the impact that this has on public perceptions of mental health. For example, researchers can look at how often mental health issues are di...

keep on editing

Image
My last day of group editing was today. Because we had spent the prior day organizing the edits, my group felt confident going into this. Priorities come first. Ely received tasks from my group. She would insert the split screen, my group determined. She would then start the music. Finally, Ely would modify footage in accordance with the music. Trevor would then finish the frozen screen. She didn't have enough time in the last lesson to learn the freeze screen. She therefore acquired it by taking this class. My turn came next. My colleagues and I agreed that I would take care of the final inspection and add finishing touches. While I was helping everyone with their allotted chores, I also offered advice. Then, my crew enlisted other reviewers to go through our work. My group heard several viewpoints. both positive and negative. However, the new version solved a lot of the issues and challenges that we had. Following this, my group learnt a lot. the right and wrong things to do. and...

Started editing

Image
So we wrapped up the filming. All that's left to do now is edit. I began by trimming our clips to the appropriate length. I followed the advise of the individual who had a viewpoint. The brightness was corrected. I changed the angles. I had trouble getting the hang of using iMovie at first. I thus explored several editing programs. I ultimately preferred iMovie and decided to stick with my previous choice. I struggled to choose the right music. I also didn't want to use copyright music. I struggled for two hours to come up with some tense background music. My group was watching our clips as I was editing. I was aware that my group wouldn't complete editing today.A ton of editing tutorial videos were viewed by my group. Developing a stronger bond with my group has been my favorite aspect of this endeavor thus far. They are all juniors, although I am a sophomore, so at first I was afraid, but they were extremely polite to me. I'm pleased my group and I grew closer since i...

Film review!

My team completed. That took a lot of effort, but it was well worth it. It was wonderful to work with my group. Working together was never really an issue for us. For a future project, I would without a doubt team up with them once more. To guarantee that we fulfilled deadlines on time, we had to make sure we have communication throughout this project. Due to our hectic schedules, we had a few challenges to overcome, but we did so as a team. I reconnected with my group to discuss and rewatch our movie. My group was quite anxious about having a peer assess our work. We were aware that certain adjustments were needed. But, we first had someone examine our projec...

finished filming today!!

Image
As usual, my group got going today. My group then realized that we were filming today. I was set to film with my group and we had a lot on our minds. Today's ability for everyone to film was a terrific beginning. With ely and I in the roles, we started filming. then collaborated with Trevor on a few movies. We didn't like the angle of the first photo. We moved on to our next scene after Ayden tried a few different angles but couldn't seem to come up with the right one. The scene with Ayden's mother was filmed by my group. The footage wasn't what we wanted when we watched it again. So, we adjusted the illumination. We enjoyed it more after seeing it again. Just in case we missed the first time, my crew retook the photo. This was a really productive day ...

Great day filming!

Image
We started filming on Saturday. My group was finally all together and we had 3 hours to film in holiday park. We started with most of Trevors scenes. Trevor needed a little practice with acting because we literally couldn't film more than one scene an hour. But today was pretty productive. Before we even started filming today, Ayden went out of his way to get more props. We wanted to film with a nicer camera but we were unable to get a camera in time. I feel as though we really bonded today with filming. We went out to get lunch after. We had to split up right after though because Ayden and I had work. When my squad came together, we had three hours to film in Holiday Park. We began with the majority of Trevor's scenes. We could hardly film more than one scene every hour, so Trevor needed some acting practice. But, today was rather fruitful. Ayden went above and above to collect extra props before we even began filming today. We wanted to use a better camera, but we couldn...

filming again...

Image
We started filming the second scene over the weekend. It was hard to get my group all together at one time. Many times I had work. Trevor was out of town for a few days. While ely was free. Ayden was with his family. Other times we wanted to film when I had work and I couldn’t. Trevor and ely filmed some the parts without me. Although they didn’t finish all of them they still accomplished a lot. I then brainstormed about how I would accomplish editing the film. My ideas were pretty good in my head. My whole group is going to probably finish filming half of the film by the end of the week. Our goals haven’t always come out how we want them. But that is what makes us a team and closer together. We knew that we weren’t going to accomplish a lot due to spring break. So, we planned ahead. We scheduled out how we could finish before the deadline. This included the editing and maybe some days that we thought we could film but ended up not being able to. We then gathered all of our props...

Finally started to film

Image
Today was the first day we got started on filming. I had work all week so I had to plan on the days I didn't work. Ayden also had work so we all colabetrted on when we should schedule off for work. Today we worked on one scene. This was the scene where trevor was getting interviewed. This took a total of two hours because we kept messing up. We had to change a few angles and the lighting for this scene. I hope we don't mess up this many times when we are filming other scenes. We filmed this at elys house and made sure it looked like an interview. We set up Trevors costume by spraying a little water on him looking like he was sweating. We tried to get a microphone but we didn't have time to get one. By the time we finished filming it was late at night. We were tired from filming so we took a little break planning out next scene. We aren't planning on filming all the scenes in order. We planned our next time we are gonna film. This date will be on a weekend because we do...

still planing on where we are filming

Image
We realized we never finished getting the rest of our props for the final scenes. We didn't  really need props in the first scenes so we never got around to it.  We had to go a few different stores to get them. We first got stuff for filming. We were going to borrow some props from Halloween stores. Then we went out to get some more props. We have to film this week when we are less busy. We also need it to be at night but since the time change, it gets darker later. We are going to finish out a schedule this weekend that is best fit for everyone. We were all really busy this week since it was the final few days before the quarter ending. We all decided it was best to film on Thursday so we could all be there.I got scheduled for work last minuted . We had to figure out how we were going to get permission to film at Trevors dads work place. I'm excited to be filling at the restaurant for our scenes. Our group is really fun to be around anyway so we don't even mind filming...

technical difficulties

Image
Hello again, today my group was supposed to film again. My group met up at elys house. Trevor was supposed to plan today and what me and my group would do. But all of us forgot. Ayden had a family gathering so he couldn't make it today. But he was filled in on what we did. I started editing our script because there were some incorrect grammar. I then faced a problem with my group. It was really hard for us to cooperate. Ayden  couldn't be there today so my group filmed not as much as we would like to. He plans to just be the filmer, but my project really need more actors so we might have to use him as an actor. We actually didn't mess up as much as I though we were going to. Filming went quite smoothly and quick. Our group works well together so there wasn't any arguments or conflict. We finished in the afternoon while there was still day light. I had a good time filming and working on this first part of our film this past weekend. We are probably going to finish fil...

planning when we are filming

Image
This weekend is when we plan to begin shooting our movie. I think we can shoot our movie in one or two days. My group bought the movie's props. Everyone of us was prepared to begin. My crew and I will be filming at trevors house on Saturday afternoon. His home will be prepared for the performances just as we require. Following that, we'll go shoot at Allison's place of employment. We hope Trevors dads workplace isn't very busy. As a result, we can record continuously. If it's still daylight, we can film at Trevors  as well. Our friend has agreed to only help us with setup and filming. We're restricting the amount of people who can help us since the last movie. But we're all still good friends and we still hang around. Everything will be well. We may also use Aydens props at his home. I'm hoping we can make use of it. It will, in my opinion, advance our movie. The videos may then be downloaded to a laptop and edited with I-Movie. I'm hoping that this...

Started Planning today..

Image
Last weekend was supposed to be our filming weekend. My organization was unable to gather everyone in time. My team had estimated that making our footage would take a few hours. I didn't want to rush it or run the risk of it failing. So my group and I made the decision to put it off till later. Despite this, we still talked about our strategy. I wanted to finish practicing our lines this week and get the timing and props ready. My crew must also make sure that the timing is accurate for our outside scenarios. Both the time and the lighting will be very important. This weekend, my friends and I will be shooting the incidents that occur at my house. My parents provided their OK for us to do that. At Trevor's father's workplace, we might be permitted to film. We don't know how busy Trevor's Dad's workplace will be this weekend, so I'm not sure if we'll film the sections there. We'll be able to stop by Trevor's Dad's workplace and see how busy it...

planning

Image
My team and I sat down to schedule the filming dates. We started by looking at everyone's schedule.  seeing what we could do to accommodate everyone. We realized that if we started the process early and met up about once a week on Sunday we would have the project finished in no time. Then we moved on to talk about locations to film. There were a to of options so we had to narrow it down and see what worked the best for our scenes. We came to the conclusion that the holiday park, my dad's office, and Jade's house were the perfect spots to film at. Next, we moved on to a simple topic of who will be in the film. And it was pretty easy we don't have that many characters just Trevor Regli, jade Walrave, Ely Silverberg, Kacy Marshell-Ayden's mom, and luke Hamill- Ely's stepfather. Our film doesn't require many physically demanding parts except for the one scene where our main character gets injured.  We are going to ensure we have the right safety gear on sight ...

Short film: Pommel

Image
For this short film research I chose Pommel by Paris Zarcilla. Pommel is about two British-Asian gymnast brothers and draws on the filmmaker's own experiences of growing up in an Asian household in the UK. With an overbearing and disapproving father, the elder brother begins to take out his frustrations on his younger brother. Both Pommel and our short film are of the sports drama genere. sound can be used to assist in the creation of tension, mood, tone, and changes in rhythm. This short did not include much dialouge, most of the emotion and feelings were conveyed through the characters actions and faces. The short included mainlt diegetic sound. There was not much noise added to the movie. The use of mainly diegetic sound made the story seem more realistic. The director did however remove a lot of sound. This created tension and was able to focus your attention on the actors portayol of thier feelings. the most common clamps in this genere were close ups, over the shoulder shots...

short film: last 3 minutes

Image
The film I chose to research was the last 3 minutes. This short film takes you through a tear-jerking flashback of a man's dying life. The short film the previous 3 minutes differs from our drama because in the last 3 minutes it displays a life drama meanwhile in our movie we display a sports drama. A Typical life drama would often be slower paced meanwhile our sports drama would most likely be a little bit faster.  sound can be used to assist in the creation of tension, mood, tone, and changes in rhythm. This short included little to no dialogue about his entire life showing his life early on and how he has progressively aged showing his adventures along the way, instead the dialogue is displayed through the characters' body language and emotions. This sound from within the film is both diegetic and nondiegetic, the diegetic coming from the different events such as the army or the new baby or the beach, and the non-diegetic coming from the background music trying to create ...

Short film: Kiss chase

Image
For short film research I decided to watch the short film, Kiss Chase Ebele Tate. I looked for similarities between the drama genre and this film.  Common Sound: The film similarly uses non-diegetic sound to use calming music in most parts of the film. The film also uses background music to express emotion in the film. The film also uses sound effects which could be used in action films as well.  Common Mis-En-Scene: The film uses similar costumes to the drama genre with shirts and jeans. The film also uses the sun as a primary source of lighting to show the sweat on characters which brings out the intensity. Common Editing: Common editing between the film and the action genre is the use of lots of shaky camera movement and enhancement of images. The use of jump cuts are common in this film I like how the drama genre appeals to bringing out intensity in film which is not the hardest thing to do. Filming the drama genre also sounds extremely challenging but still fun. I ...

Short film: falsehood

Image
This short film features sound, set design, and editing that are all relevant to our film. The diegetic sound is the first thing that comes to mind. This is a technique employed in drama films to communicate the film's emotions. The sound in this film is employed to convey the shock and anxiety he is experiencing. A non-diegetic sound is also used to depict the film's surrounding feelings. To make the viewers in shock, the film uses a dramatic entrance of the main character. Then there are gunshots and people fleeing to add to the film's unsettling atmosphere. The mise-en-scene in the film is inspired by the clothing. The man is dressed in typical street clothing, and the girl is dressed similarly. All of the characters wear the costumes that they are portraying, thus it is a true representation of their personalities. This is primarily utilized in drama to depict how characters ibehave and respond to emotions in their everyday lives and attire. Continuous editing was emp...

Short film research

Image
The phrase "short movie" is a teaser. Though the name would suggest otherwise, making a short film requires a lot of time, work, and energy. This movie taught me that the most important phase in filming a short film is planning, if not the most important step overall. Writing for the type of movie you are attempting to produce is one of the most important planning lessons I learned from this video. This seemed clear at first, but then I gave it more thinking. It is crucial that we avoid taking on more than we can handle while writing our script and making plans for the production of our movie. To put it another way, we shouldn't try to include anything in our movie that we are aware won't be feasible for us to produce. For instance, we must watch out for going over budget, include items that will cost more than we are prepared to pay, and writing for a cast that is larger than the number of actors we know we will be able to hire. We can truly start writing after we h...
