-In the opening sequence the very first title displayed is "The Irishman" written in bold and capital letters. This title appears on a pitch black screen in bright white bold lettering.

-In the beginning we see images such as dark hallways and eerie walls of a nursing home. Then there is a flashback where we see the main character at a home using a weapon to murder someone, he then puts on his jewelry. These images are prioritized because they represent the gangster mafia life. We see close up of the weapon being drawn, along with the blood splattering. We also see a close up shot of the expensive looking watches and rings that the perpetrator goes to put on.

-These images carry a "gangster" connotation and a somewhat elite or upperclass one swell. We see weapons and gun in crime movies which is where we can find the "gangster" conventions. There are also prioritized scenes of expensive jewelry to indicate that they are living a lavish lifestyle.

-This film establishes a gangster, crime/drama feeling from the outset. While it may begin slightly eerie with the panoramic shot of the nursing home and walkthrough of the home. It soon switches to a much more gangster feel once the flashback occurs, indicating the premise of the movie. In the flashback we see a typical hit done by gangsters affirming the genre is relating to crime.
